Changing Nokia / Symbian S60 'Desktop' icons

21 December 2008 No Comment

Problem

I wanted to change the shortcuts on my Nokia E65, The ones that are shown on the ‘homepage’ – if I can call it that – at the top of the screen as icons.

Solution

I searched around and found that these links are actually called ‘Active Standby Apps’ (finding out the correct nomenclature is half the battle with these problems!), and they can be changed by using the following method:

The home screen showing six shortcut icons to apps

As far as I know, this method applies to all devices running Symbian S60 version 3, that have Active Standby App links turned on. I have tested it on the E65, N93 and N95. If you find it does or doesn’t work on any other phones, please leave a comment below.
